A Little BBQ Dream Come True
Josh came into the kitchen yesterday and asked me to read aloud the “Our BBQ Story” bio from our website. I hadn’t actually told him I’d written him, but our friend Joe told him about it at the coffee shop. I was busy and wanted him to read it himself but he hates even looking at computers (and to be fair he needs cheaters these days), so I read it to him.
And after the second sentence I just started crying–completely out of the blue! What was happening to me? Its as if we’ve had this little dream, taken a bunch of chances, worked really hard, and here we were, opening for regular hours and dang, it was kind of a big deal. Even though we have served BBQ so many times at our own events or other folks’ events, this was different.
You all were most excellent last night. Our first customer was a local business excited about a new take-out option in town. Our first seated customer grew up in Texas and as soon as they saw the brisket, they knew they’d come to the right place. Dr. Joe later walked in with a take-out menu in-hand, all marked up and ready to order as soon as he came in the door. Locals and friends and new people were here. My drummer came with his family too! Dang it was a good night.
Kristi Jean & Her Ne’er-do-Wells HELD IT DOWN! Their expert country rock-a-billy was the perfect fit for such a fine BBQ occasion. A little secret–Kristi Jean is the Catering Manager at Webster’s in State College and she did SIX caterings before coming to do a little gig at LeRoy Infamous UpTexas BBQ.
We are now open–and our Meat Combos are just beautiful and out of this world. Y’all Come!
